Before you start
- A niche or a seed searchA few words the way people type them into Google: "cold plunge", "home sauna", "AI receptionist". At most 6 words.
- Your Aha Studio accountMembers run 30 radars a month. Without a plan the free demo runs one radar a day with the 10 top rising searches. Unlimited with your own AI key and DataForSEO login after your first 14 days.
- Search dataGoogle Trends and Keyword Planner numbers come through DataForSEO. With your own DataForSEO key under Keys and connections the lookups cost your plan nothing.
The lines are Google Trends interest from 0 to 100, not search volume; Monthly searches is the volume. Every number comes from Google: the AI only writes the verdict lines, checked by code.
PART 01
Run the radar
0 of 4 done- Open Trend RadarAt trendradar.ahastudio.net, or press Start something new on your account page and choose Trend radar.
- Type the nicheIn Niche or search, type a few words. Broad works best: Google lists more rising searches around "cold plunge" than around "cold plunge tub for two".
- Pick the countrySearch market, the United States first. Google Trends and the monthly searches are read for that country.
- Press Run the radarAll five steps are listed from the start and tick off with their times: explore related searches, read 5 years of each, label the shape, add monthly searches, pick three to build on. The niche's own chart and the rising topics show after the first step, the mix of shapes after the third, and the monthly searches say Not looked up yet until the fourth. A step that fails says why and has Retry. Once done the steps fold away behind Show the 5 steps.
PART 02
Read the results
The section barStays at the top as you scroll: Overview, Build on now, All rising, Topics and Next, with Download CSV on the right.
OverviewThe niche's own 5 years, week by week, with its peak and its label and rule, vs a year ago, vs its 5-year average and its Monthly searches, then the related searches by shape. Press a shape to filter the list.
All risingOne row per search with its shape, kind (product, comparison, question, local, how-to or broad), 5-year sparkline, change on a year ago, monthly searches and score, best first. Open a row for a larger chart, why it has its shape and the hand-offs. Searches too small to judge are left out of the list and named under it: never guessed.
The scoreA score out of 100 by fixed rules: the shape (40: Breakout 40, Rising 36, Seasonal 24, Steady 18, a spike then drop 6, Fading 0), the last 13 weeks against the same weeks a year earlier (30; +100% or more, or up from zero, counts in full) and the monthly searches (30, on a log scale; 100,000 a month counts in full, none or not looked up counts nothing). Searches too small to judge are not scored. Ties go by shape, then by the growth Google gave.
Growth Google gaveThe figure exactly as Google gave it (+450% means the search grew by 450% in the period).
BreakoutGoogle calls a search "Breakout" when it grew by more than 5000%. That can start from a tiny base, so check the monthly searches before you build on it.
Momentumvs a year ago: the last 13 weeks against the same weeks a year earlier. vs its 5-year average: the last 13 weeks against the average of the 5 years.
Monthly searchesFrom Google Keyword Planner for that country, or "no volume data". Never estimated.
Three to build on nowThree picks with their 5-year chart, the change on a year ago, the monthly searches, the kind of search and why, a line each written by the AI from the row's numbers and checked by code: a line with any other number is refused.
Hand it onWrite it in SEO Magnets, Research its keywords (Keyword Research) or Build a site with Site Sniper opens that worker with the search filled in. Download CSV saves every row, with its score and kind.
Rising topicsTopics Google lists as rising around the niche, with the rise it gave: ideas for what to cover, not searches. Over +1,000% shows in purple.
PART 03
The shape labels and their rules
Five shapes, worked out by code on monthly averages of the weekly line (missing weeks ignored) with the same rules as Tony's Breakout Radar extension. Each row shows the rule behind its label, and How shapes are labelled shows them all.
BreakoutBefore the last 12 months it averaged at most 5 of 100 of its own peak; the last 13 weeks average at least 20.
RisingLabelled Growing by the rules. Monthly, the second half of the 5 years averages at least 115% of the first half and the trend line points up; when the halves are close, the trend line clearly points up.
SeasonalAt least 3 clear rises and falls, the second half 70% to 140% of the first. The row names the peak months when they repeat.
SteadyMonthly, the second half of the 5 years averages within 90% to 110% of the first half, or the trend line is close to flat.
FadingFalling (the second half at most 85% of the first, and the trend line points down) or Spike then drop (one peak away from both ends, the start at most 60% of it and the end at most half). The row says which.
too small to judgeFewer than 6 readable months, or a line too small to read. Left out of the list, never guessed; the CSV keeps it.
